TECHNOLOGY, DESIGNED EARLY
Designed Before It’s Built
The best technology doesn't begin with equipment. It begins with a plan.
SAV provides comprehensive technology and lighting design services for private residences, hospitality properties, and commercial projects where integration, documentation, coordination, and attention to detail matter. Working alongside architects, interior designers, builders, engineers, and other consultants, we help define how technology will live within the architecture long before construction begins.
From infrastructure and device placement to lighting, shading, networking, security, audio/video, and control, each system is considered as part of a larger whole—creating a clear path from design intent to execution.
TECHNOLOGY + LIGHTING DESIGN
One Vision. Fully Considered.
Technology touches nearly every part of a modern home. Designing those systems together allows decisions about infrastructure, aesthetics, performance, and usability to be made intentionally rather than independently.
Depending on the project scope, SAV's design services can encompass low-voltage infrastructure, audio/video, data and Wi-Fi networks, security and access control, environmental monitoring, integrated control, motorized window treatments, architectural lighting, lighting control, circuiting, and related building-system integrations.
Our role is to understand what the client wants to experience, translate that vision into coordinated systems, and provide the documentation necessary for the project team to bring it to life.
The technology may eventually disappear into the architecture. The thinking behind it shouldn't.
THE DESIGN PROCESS
From Vision to Documentation
Great integration requires more than selecting products. SAV follows a structured design process that develops alongside the architecture—from early concepts through construction-ready documentation.
Schematic Design begins with discovery. We review the architectural drawing set, study materials and building systems, evaluate potential infrastructure challenges, and work with the client and design team to understand the project's objectives. Preliminary narratives and device-placement plans establish the foundation for the systems. YC Ranch 6 Lighting & Tech Desi…
Design Development turns that foundation into greater definition. System intent, preliminary specifications, product selections, device locations, and budget ranges are developed and presented to the team for coordination and feedback. YC Ranch 6 Lighting & Tech Desi…
Construction Documentation translates the design into detailed information for execution. Depending on scope, documentation can include device plans, connection and I/O drawings, power and conduit requirements, equipment room and rack elevations, specifications, and bills of materials.
DESIGN-BUILD COLLABORATION
Better Decisions, Earlier
Technology doesn't exist independently from architecture. A speaker affects a ceiling plan. A shade affects a pocket detail. A keypad affects an interior elevation. Lighting interacts with materials, furnishings, artwork, cabinetry, and natural light. Equipment requires power, ventilation, pathways, and space.
That's why SAV works directly with architects, interior designers, builders, electrical and mechanical engineers, lighting designers, acoustical consultants, and other project partners throughout the design process. Your own design methodology specifically calls for interviews and coordination with these disciplines so that their objectives can be synchronized before the systems are finalized. Early coordination allows questions to be answered on paper rather than in the field—and helps protect the architecture from compromises that could have been avoided.
When everyone is designing from the same vision, technology becomes part of the architecture rather than an addition to it.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Design Services FAQs
-
What are technology design services?
Technology design services define how integrated systems will function, where they will be located, how they connect, and what infrastructure they require before installation begins. SAV's process can include system narratives, device-placement plans, specifications, budget ranges, connection drawings, power and conduit requirements, equipment-rack elevations, and final bills of materials. -
Ideally, during the early architectural design process. Early involvement gives SAV and the design team greater opportunity to coordinate infrastructure, device locations, lighting, shading, equipment spaces, power requirements, and architectural details before those decisions become difficult or expensive to change.
-
Yes, when architectural lighting is included within the project scope. SAV's lighting design services can include architectural fixture design and specification, integration of decorative fixtures, lighting controls, circuiting, automation, and coordination with window treatments. The design deliverables can progress from schematic lighting plans through dimensioned plans, fixture specifications, installation details, and control/circuiting documentation. Depending on the project, SAV can design low-voltage infrastructure, audio/video, data and Wi-Fi networks, security and access control, environmental monitoring, integrated controls, motorized window treatments, architectural lighting, lighting controls, and related system integrations. The exact design scope is established for each project.
-
Yes. Collaboration with the broader project team is fundamental to SAV's design process. Our agreements specifically provide for SAV design personnel to participate in appropriate design-team meetings and coordinate with architects, general contractors, designers, consultants, and subcontractors as required to develop the design.
-
Ideally, during the early architectural and engineering phases. SAV collaborates with architects, interior designers, developers, builders, and consultants to coordinate lighting, shading, audio/video, networking, security, and control systems before construction begins. Early involvement helps align technology with the design intent, infrastructure requirements, and operational needs of the property.
Design With Intention
Whether you're beginning a new residence, planning a substantial renovation, or assembling the consultant team for a complex architectural project, bringing technology into the conversation early creates more opportunity to get the details right.
Tell us about the project, the design team, and the experience you're working to create. We'll help define the technology and lighting systems behind it.
